Some HR differences among the Industries

  • Healthcare has quite a few laws and regulations that impact HR. A few include the following: vaccinations as condition of employment, OSHA on health care-specific workplace violence, and compensation plans for home health aides who travel between client locations during the workday
  • Mortgage Loan Officers compensation has proven to be tricky at best, at worst it is a nightmare. Compensation must follow the Dodd-Frank Act (which created the Truth in Lending Act) specifying exactly how a Loan Officer (or Originator) may get paid and how they are not to be paid.
  • Temporary Staffing can be difficult for an employer as many contingent employees should be classified as regular employees. Plus the company where the contingent employees go to work does not have full authority over them as they do for their actual company employees.
  • Child care has multiple laws based on in home or in a child care center. Licensing is different by state, and employment screening is significant, including required immunizations.
  • Not for profit and for profit organizations are significantly different in the overall objectives: a for profit, well, is structured with employees to increase sales to make profit. A not for profit is focused on community and engages employees and many volunteers.
  • Shooting ranges have specific safety laws for employees, including prevention of lead contamination and hearing loss.
  • Travel agencies have 3 individual, specific state laws about how the agency is run, many states have no state laws.
